Montenegro’s Top Young Economists Selected for International Competition

Today the Institute for Strategic Studies and Prognoses successfully organized the national finals of the Economics Olympiad for high school students, hosted at the University of Donja Gorica (UDG) in Podgorica. This was the first time ISSP led the organization of the Olympiad in Montenegro, within the international Economic Fundamentals Initiative (EFI).

The Economics Olympiad is part of a wider international project aimed at strengthening economic and financial literacy among young people across Europe and the world. In this year nine high schools from across Montenegro participated, with a total of 126 students competing in the school-level rounds.

The top performers from each school were invited to the national finals, where they demonstrated their economic knowledge. At the end of the competition, five students were selected to represent Montenegro at the International Economics Olympiad, which will take place in August 2025 in Athens, Greece.

The core learning material for the competition was the book “Common Sense Economics: What Everyone Should Know About Personal and National Prosperity”, translated into Montenegrin by ISSP under the title „Praktična ekonomija“. Authored by a group of renowned American economists, the book provides a practical and accessible explanation of key economic concepts, emphasizing the importance of financial responsibility and market understanding in everyday life.

Through a dynamic and engaging format, the Olympiad encourages young people to think critically about economics and recognize their role in the broader economic system. We are proud of all the students, teachers, and mentors who participated and contributed to the success of this initiative. We wish our finalists the best of luck in Athens and look forward to supporting the next generation of Montenegrin economists!
